From Buzzfed: 21 Things People Always Ask When You’re From California

As a California native, here are my riveting answers to these pressing questions.

  1. Do you go to the beach all the time? Not ALL the time.
  2. Can you surf? I’ve BEEN surfing.
  3. Aren’t you afraid of SHARKS? No, not afraid of sharks. More afraid of seaweed touching my foot.
  4. Is this Katy Perry video what your life’s like? No.
  5. Do you have a pool in your backyard? Nope.
  6. Why are you so pale? Don’t you tan ALL THE TIME? I’m not pale, I have olive skin!
  7. Do you live near Disneyland? I live about 2 hrs north of Disneyland.
  8. Have you ever seen a movie star? They all live in or visit my hometown.
  9. Have you been to a TV show taping before? Yep. Whose Line Is It Anyway? It was rad.
  10. What’s it like to be in an earthquake? Tons of fun! Shaky. But the biggest I’ve been in is a 4, so no building crashed or anything.
  11. Have you ever been in a wildfire? Was it scary? I’ve been far enough away to not have to worry about them. The smoke will always get you, though.
  12. Is traffic really that bad? Yes. Yes, it is.
  13. Why do you call it THE 405 and not I-405? Because it’s THE 405. Duh.
  14. Have you ever been to Laguna Beach? Don’t think so.
  15. How about the OC? Yep.
  16. What’s the difference between NorCal and SoCal? Everything above San Francisco is Oregon. For me, Santa Barbara & below is SoCal. I’d probably use Fresno as the beginning of NoCal.
  17. Have you been to the Full House houses? Nope.
  18. What is Compton like? A little stressful, especially at night. Just stay in your car and for the love of God, DRIVE!
  19. Have you done a juice cleanse before? No, but I would.
  20. Do you have a medical marijuana card? Can I use it? Ha! I don’t need one. Please. Don’t you know where I live?
  21. And finally the one question we loved to be asked: do you eat Mexican food, like, all day long? All day, every day.

literaryjukebox:

I discovered these common, self imposed restrictions are rather insidious, though they start out simple enough. We begin by worrying we aren’t good enough, smart enough or talented enough to get what we want, then we voluntarily live in this paralyzing mental framework, rather than confront our own role in this paralysis. Just the possibility of failing turns into a dutiful self-fulfilling prophecy. We begin to believe that these personal restrictions are, in fact, the fixed limitations of the world. We go on to live our lives, all the while wondering what we can change and how we can change it, and we calculate and re-calculate when we will be ready to do the thing s we want to do. And we dream. If only. If only. One day. Some day.

Every once in a while — often when we least expect it — we encounter someone more courageous, someone who choose to strive for that which (to us) seemed unrealistically unattainable, even elusive. And we marvel. We swoon. We gape. Often , we are in awe. I think we look at these people as lucky, when in fact, luck has nothing to do with it. It is really about the strength of their imagination; it is about how they constructed the possibilities for their Life. In short, unlike me, they didn’t determine what was impossible before it was even possible.

If you imagine less, less will be what you undoubtedly deserve. Do what you love, and don’t stop until you get what you love. Work as hard as you can, imagine immensities, don’t compromise, and don’t waste time. Start now. Not 20 years from now, not two weeks from now. Now.

Thank THIS

I’m thankful I’m not in a soul crushing, emotionally devoid relationship.
I’m thankful for being shamelessly single by choice.
I’m thankful I haven’t settled.
I’m thankful I don’t have kids.
I’m thankful for the most adorable, funny, overbearingly loving, ridiculous cat ever in the whole world. Yes, even more so than yours.
I’m thankful for my new old car so I can continue to go and do whatever I want, whenever I want.
And I’m thankful for my parents putting up with my shit.
